Jazz Journey Wednesday Nights 8pm -9pm
Sean Brophy
After almost 25 years on the air and having started my broadcasting career on the very much loved Jazz FM Dublin I have stayed reasonably faithful to that genre. In my youth, I listened to lots of radio including historic stations such as The Light Programme ( now BBC Radio 2 ) where one Alan Freeman caught my attention from 1963.
Radio Eireann, while not known for popular music apart from what was aired on the long departed sponsored programmes which in the 15-minute segments you could hear anything from the latest pop music together with east listening artists of the era such as Ella Fitzgerald & Frank Sinatra plus Irish ceili music & on The Waltons show Irish luminaries such as Joe Lynch ( great singer & actor ), Noel Purcell plus more more from Glenside Records.
Radio Luxembourg was a favourite in our household also but it took the offshore 1960’s stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio London, Radio 270 & Radio Scotland to bring non-stop popular music to my attention.
John Peel was another music adventurer who brought the alternative music agenda to life.
I was lucky enough to be involved in lots of work presentations during my career with a well-known semi-state company thus somewhat burnishing my humble abilities in radio presentation.

Jazz Journey Show
Jazz Journey will look at the evolution of jazz through selective use of my extensive jazz music collection. My own personal trip into jazz will be reflected in some of the wide ranging choices for upcoming shows and will naturally ( I hope ) alight on the other music genre directions which pointed into what some might describe as the PURE JAZZ effect.
Jazz has a long history, is regarded at the folk music of America and has taken many detours along its notable voyages to date. Given the ongoing evolving nature of jazz I would aspire to incorporate what is now known as modern jazz ( labels abound even within this wonderfully artistic music ) I hope that I have what it takes to be a worthy custodian as your presenter on JAZZ JOURNEY.
Finally I hope that in addition to joining me of this trip you will also contribute suggestions to hone my style and present the best jazz on HITS RADIO IRELAND and further enhance the magnificent music offerings already in existence on the station.
